Gran Hotel Torre Catalunya - Barcelona

We really liked this hotel. Our room was very spacious and comfortable. It was very close to the train station, so we got a train from the airport and we were literally next door to the hotel. The location was good. It wasn't exactly in the centre of town, but was only about 30 mins to la ramblas via 2 subways. One thing that did annoy us was that the extras were very expensive. For example the internet was almost €5/hour, and tea/coffee making facilities cost €15 for the duration of our stay. We actually saw a kettle on sale for €10 so it would have been cheaper to buy one. This took from the experience a bit as we felt a bit ripped off. Also we didn't go near the bar/restaurant after seeing the price on the menu.

We stayed here for the last night of our honeymoon, since we were flying back to the states out of Barcelona. It is just next door to the train and metro stations, which made it super convenient for easy travel to Las Ramblas and the airport. The concierge, Miguel, was exceptionally friendly and informative. He helped us navigate the train and metro. The breakfast buffet was overpriced, but had pretty good food and a large variety of it. The view from the top-story restaurant is not to be missed. Really enjoyed soaking in the large bathtub. Our only complaint is that when we called down to get an iron delivered our room, we never got one. But otherwise, everyone was friendly and our stay was very pleasant.

The service was excellent and the food great and would recommend it to others

We choose this hotel after reading the other reviews from hotels.com and tripadvisor. The room was very spacious (Esp for Europe), very clean with a modern feel. The hotel is located right across the street from a metro and train station which made getting around the city extremely convenient. The staff all spoke English well and was quite friendly and helpful. The spectacular Font Màgica show was a short 15 minute walk up the street.

Great location, 2 minute walk to main train staion, subway and the terrific BusTouristic. Room/beds were good, view of the city from our room and especially from the 23rd floor restaurant were spectacular.

Clean and comfortable, close to the train station (train to airport for 1.35 euros). Close to metro station, quick trip to La Rambla. Bar/lounge food is excellent, prices are reasonable. Highly recommend to everyone.

Very convenient location close to train station and the metro. Can get to virtually any of the spots of interest in Barcelona by metro within about 15-20 minutes. Outstanding view of the entire city from the top floor restaurant, which serves a very good, reasonably priced buffet breakfast.

Room was a good size, housekeeping was okay, but the staff were very helpful and the hotel is next to the train station and metro - very convenient.

Rooms were great, bathroom was incredible. And the location cannot be beat -- right next to the central metro for access to all the city. I will most definitely stay here again!

This hotel is a little of the main drag of Las Rambles but quite honestly it was nice to get away from that craziness. A few minutes walk from the Art museum and the 1992 Olympic Stadium (which we happened to see a Madonna concert in while we were there).

This hotel is very convenient for getting to and from the airport. The bed was quite hard. The ice machine was broken, but room service promptly brought ice to the room when we reported this. It was fairly loud, with noise both from the street and from the hall.

This hotel is conveniently located near the Barcelona Sans station. This is the main station for the metro, RER and RENFE (spanish railroad). The area is safe, clean. The room was very modern and clean. The only problem was the bed was too hard.

We arrived at the hotel 9:45 am from an overseas flight and the room was available for early check in at no extra charge. The hotel staff at the front desk were extremely friendly and spoke english. They were very knowelegable and helped plan our sightseeing for that day. We stayed at the hotel one night and boarded a cruise the next day. The train station was a 3 minute walk to the hotel. The train was very convient to get to all the attractions. We used the train to go to the cruise ship terminal as well. It was about a 25 minute walk from the train to the cruise ship terminal. The mattress was kind of hard. The hotel was in excellent condition.

I took a long time choosing a hotel and this did not disappoint. Our room was amazing, definately worth gettin an executive room. We were on the 18th floor, the view was superb, the room was massive and well equipped, as was the bathroom, best hotel room ever. Hotel staff could not b more helpful, spa was good too. Didnt eat in restaurant because of price, but worth sittin up there with a drink. Location also excellent, no searching for hotel, right next to metro, bus and train station, but city centre also in walking distance. Supermarket next door and plenty of cafes/bakery's for breakfast.5* hotel, 5* holiday!!!!

I only hoped the hotel would live up to it's reviews, and it most certainly did! The room was very spacious, the marble bathroom was luxurious and the view was awesome and went on forever, and the staff was very helpful and spoke English well! I've never seen such a large hotel room in Europe! I highly recommend this hotel to anyone going to Barcelona! I hope I have the opportunity to go back and stay longer next time!

One of the best and best value European hotels I have stayed in. Room and especially bathroom was spacious and clean. Staff were friendly, knowledgeable, and fast. Location is not in the most central area - so it is not walking distance to most sites, however it is next to a large train/metro station, which has several lines so is actually very convenient. A couple small things to be aware of however. Firstly The aircon at the highest setting is not very cool and there is no extractor fan in the bathroom - so in the summer the room can take quite a while to cool down. Secondly, for a 4 star hotel, there are items missing that you'd usually find, eg more toiletries (only shower gel and shampoo supplied), robe, slippers, ketal etc.. however there is a large supermarket downstairs so if something is missing it isnt too inconvenient.

from the moment we arrived until the moment we left we could not have been better looked after.the staff at reception set a precedent for all the other departmens.the food was excellent and its one of the few modern hotels that actually has a lounge bar.even on leaving we were offered the facility of having a shower even though we had checked out.i will definately stay there again.

It is so common to have free access of internat included in the room facilites as well as free Wi-fi service @ hotel common area in most moden cities. But not for this hotel.

All the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The food in a Visual restaurant was exquisite and the service faultless. We did not book breakfast as there were plenty of nearby food places to grab something to eat. There was a good deal on if you booked your breakfast in advance but you had to book it for the whole of your stay to take advantage of the offer (12 euros each per day or 16 euros if you just turn up). We did have one meal in the Lounge Bar but we were not very impressed with the quality! Our room was on the 18th floor and although there was some construction work going on nearby it was still very quite. Satellite channels not very good-the only channels in English seemed to be news channels. Brilliant location for metros/buses and taxis. We mainly travelling by metro by purchasing 10 journey tickets which were excellent value for money. If you travel into Barcelona to eat have a good look around at the restaurants before chosing-there is a vast difference in price and quality. The only complaint that we really has was the beds was extremely hard and we had paid for an Executive room which appeared to be not much better than an ordinary superior hotel room, with the exception of tea and coffee making facilities. Overall, good hotel-lovely city.

Travelling when the pound was weak against the euro, we found Barcelona expensive. However, this hotel gave excellent value for money (provided you ate elsewhere!). For a short break this was almost the perfect location: right next to a main railway station 20 minutes from the airport, near to a metro line just a few minutes from the city centre and close to a number and variety of food outlets. All city attractions were within easy reach. Accommodation was functional - a typical business hotel, with all mod cons and very clean. Thoroughly recommended for a city break or business trip.

Goods - room has a nice view up to the Montjuic. - close to the Sants train station (Good if going from/to the airport) - breakfast was very good but not included Bad - Expo hotel is next to it, so the view of the room includes the roof and the swimming pool of it.

I picked this hotel because it was conviently located near the train station. It came in handy. When we got there, we were told that there would be an extra charge (small) for my daughter, but I didn't mind because they gave us an extra bed. The room was clean and we had a good view. The only down fall is that kids were riding their skateboards across the street until late hours. If you have kids who go to bed early, I would not recommend it. Other than that, I would stay at this hotel again.

An excellent hotel with freindly, helpuful and informative reception staff. We were upgraded from and executive room to a superior room for our stay. Great views from the room, and I have to say the rooms and bathrooms were spotlessly clean. The hotel is well located directly outside Barcelona Sants station, which while not central, is very good for transport allowing easy access to the city centre about 10 mins away. I highly recommend this hotels for travellers who would like a quiet stay away from the noise and bsutle of the city centre. The only down side seemed to be that there were very few restaurants within easy walk of the hotel other than the fast food places in the station.

Realatively quiet area but really handy for the main station in Barcelona which is an easy 18 minute ride from the airport. 50m from subway station. Nice rooms, good views from floor to ceiling windows.

One of the best hotels in that price range that i've stayed at in europe. very clean, rooms are bigger than most places in europe i've been to, and location is great. it's 50 yards to one of the main tain stations and also to the metro. i loved it

I really enjoyed staying the Gran Hotel Torre Catalunya, the location was extremely convinient being right next to the train station (which we took from the airport) and right across from the Metro. The mattress was a little hard but after a long day of sightseeing, not very noticeable. The maid service is excellent and left the room spotless after each day. The only complaint that I really had about the hotel was their smoking rooms. Even if you or your companion do not smoke, you will smell the smoke wafting in from the vent in other smoking rooms. I discovered that I do have a sensitivity or allergy to smoke on this trip through the unpleasant aroma that leaked into my hotel room on a few of the days (due to other smokers in close proximity). The was the only downside for an otherwise very pleasant experience. If you have any sensitivity to smoke or do not want to smell smoke in your room, just be sure to get a non-smoking room because even if you are not smoking, you will be able to smell it from others.

Excellent hotel for a break in Barcelona. Fabulous rooms with amazing view from our 10th floor room . Very clean and stylish with an amazing bathroom. Good location next to the Metro with a direct line to major attractions. 10 minute walk to Placa Esapanya and Montjuic. A little removed form the major attractions but the metro is quick clean and cheap.

I loved this hotel. We upgraded to the 20th floor and even then it was inexpensive.Breakfast was first class and lasted you all day.All the staff where wonderful.Dinner in top floor restraunt expensive but food was very good,much cheaper in ground floor lounge which was snack food but good.We had a corner room with windows to both sides, the noise levels in this room was nil, I never once heard another guest and had 4 blissful nights sleep, (unheard of in most hotels).I know this hotel will not suit anyone who likes to be up late eating and drinking as there in not much around it, but if, like me you want a good nights sleep, get up early, eat a good breakfast then spend the day sight seeing, taking in a light evening meal before you return to hotel at 9ish then this is the place to go. Right next to Sants station and very easy to find your way around, worked out very inexpensive using underground and quick, 3 stops from airport. Ten out on ten would stay there again.

The improvement that they need, is in the area of the air condition. After 10:00pm they control the air condition in the room and it was hot. I had to open the window and it was so noising out side in the street. It took time for me to fall asleep.

I stayed in this hotel in December 2008 for a business trip. I also did some sightseeing. This hotel was wonderful, very well located next to the train station with quick access to the airport. It was also very easy to get from the hotel to the tourist bus stop for a great tour of Barcelona. The rooms are beautiful and very modern. They are very spacious, with nicely renovated big bathrooms. I highly recommend this hotel.

v comfortable and very attentive staff. busy road means best to try and get room at back/ higher up. easy train run (3 stops) from airport and tube on the doorstep.

Thank you for other reviewers of this hotel. I booked it based upon the reviews. Just to recap. Great location right across street from Sants Metro station. Beautiful facilities but the neighborhood is more of a business area, not much night life. I booked 2 rooms: 1 Executive Double and 1 Standard Double. The standard double room was bigger both the room and bathroom were bigger. The only difference I saw was the Executive Double had robe and slippers and it had a nicer view (higher floor). In my opinion, get the Standard Room and save a few bucks.

The staff was very accomodating and very helpful. As previously posted by others, the bed was very hard. Easy access to Metro (Sants Station right across the street). Overall, a pretty good, but not outstanding experience. We would recommend to others, but warn them about the beds.

I went to this hotel, and i loved everything about it; it's beautiful! The restaurant at the top has an incredible view of the city with excellent service and delicious food. The bathrooms have feature in which you can play the TV audio while you bathe. How delightful. The staff was very friendly, knowledgeable, and fluent in english. The rooms were quaint and homey. Stay here.

perfect location for both city centre and ease of transport from the airport,all links covered, we didn't eat at the hotel as on a budget , but there is a supermarket just next door and the room service was excellent at supplying plates etc. The bathroom was particularly great and being on the 10 floor we had excellent views, avery pleasant stay.

While this hotel is not in the Ramblas area, it is only a few metro stops away and you pay 1/2 the price. The room and staff were very good.

We were pleased with everything except two things. The first was that the was a hefty fee if you wanted to use their work out room and the other was the beds were very very hard. It was our ist trip to Spain and have nothing to compare it with. Overall we were very pleased.

This is a most conveniently situated hotel, with access to public transport and taxies always available. the staff were very pleasant and a glitch with the original room was immediately sorted on our arrival and we were assigned another room. We spent 5 days and found the level of housekeeping excellent throughout our stay. The hotel is on a direct Metro line to the many of places of interest, eg The Rambla and its surrounding areas and a pleasant walk to Montjuic for the museums, Olympic Stadium not to mention the views and access to cable cars etc. this hotel is an excellent base for a visit.

This hotel is right across from the train station and only 1 stop away from Plaza Catalunya. There's also a convenience store right downstairs. The views from the breakfast lounge were spectacular. Overall, we were very satisfied with this choice.
